Find out how easy it is to publish your own ebook online. What do you need to know? What does it involve? And how much money can you make?

 Starting An eBook
While it is relatively simple to publish a book or an ebook, the real work is in writing the book itself. One of the major problem of e-publishing is that most of the books are poorly written due to lots of factors including poor editing, wrong formatting, rushing to get books published. Therefore if you want to write and publish a book, you must do all possible to bring out a product that has value and quality, no matter how cheap it is.

What type of ebook?
It is important that you first of all figure out what type of book you want to write before you ever start. Are you writing a fiction or non-fiction book? If it’s a non-fiction book, what niche are you writing for? The single secret to writing online is that tutorials and guides work well because people can learn from them. Also, if you decide to write a fiction novel, what genre are you focusing on? Crime thrillers, fantasy, science, romance and chick-lit tend to sell well. These type of ebooks sells more probably because the targets of these types of ebooks read more than the average reader.

It is important to read other people’s book that is like yours. To do this, search online for the top 30 selling titles and download few that are similar to yours. This will help you to improve your own writing.

Book Length
It is important that you take into full consideration the length of your own book. Note that most best selling books tend to be short for quick reads that people can read while on their way to work.
Very few writers see any success from their first book, often it’s their forth or fifth that is good enough.

Proof Reading:
It is important that you proofread your book once you have written it to make sure there are no errors or mistakes. It will be a wise thing to pay a professional pay a professional editor to vet your work before you publish it online.  There is nothing worse than someone buying your ebook and reading it and seeing there are poor spelling and grammar!

 Cover Design of your ebook
A book is actually judged first by its cover. Therefore, this is an all important aspect of your book publishing success. It is important you know that books are displayed with an image thumbnail of the cover design online. Therefore use a good one, so it’s important that you use a good one.
My advice is that you have a professional graphic designer to design your ebook cover for you with an outstanding image as this could get your book noticed more and help sell it!
Getting Started With Where I sell.

One of the best place to sell your ebook in e-reader form is Amazon Kindle. You can do this exactly at kdp.amazon.com. It is free to sell at Amazon Kindle. All you have to do is sign up and start selling.

Uploading An eBook
Once your ebook is ready, log into your Amazon Kindle Account with kdp.amazon.com, Click on Add New File and you are taken to the next page where you add your book name and title, publisher’s name which could be your name or your company, and a lot of other details in the description as below
Note that this is your opportunity to really sell your work so you must add compelling blurbs, without giving away any of its secrets/plot twists. One good way you can achieve this blurb is by including a sample, perhaps the first couple of paragraphs, along with the e-book length, e.g. 90,000 words.
Once the above is done, you need to upload your book cover as well as the book content file. You do that by clicking on the browse for image and Browse icon respectively for “Upload Or Create a Book Cover” and Upload Your Book File Icons.

If you want to design your cover using Amazon Free Cover Design tool, then click on the “Launch Cover Creator” Icon.
Once you are through with this, click on Save and Continue and you will be taken to the next page which is for Pricing and Rights.

The next step is to get your e-book out there for people to read. Amazon has a great video and step-by-step guide to uploading your work, which is very simple. It’s also a good idea to check out smashwords, a platform that allows you to distribute your e-book to the Apple iBookstore, Barnes & Noble, the Sony Reader Store and the Diesel eBook store.

Pricing and Rights
On this platform, you will need to select where you are selling your product. My advice is that you select worldwide.
There are two royalty rates offered by Amazon;
  • 70%
  • 35%
So, try to keep your price as low as possible! The cheaper the book is, the more it will sell. Amazon lets you sell for as little as $0.99 in the US and £0.75 in the UK. For a first time writer, that’s probably the best price to go for.

Creating A Brand
Once you’ve uploaded your book by clicking the Save and Publish button, you will have to wait around 24 hours before your book is listed in the online store. What takes considerably longer is getting your book noticed!

It’s a good idea to promote your book on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook & Google+, together with specialist sites like Kindleboards.com and Goodreads.com. If you haven’t done so already, create your own website and promote your ebook.

You need to define your target audience of niche readers, who are going to be the people most likely to buy your book. You could post a series of short blog posts for your target audience, helping to promote your book and raise your profile online. The idea is to attract readers to your website, where you can engage them on an individual level until they finally begin to correspond by Twitter, Facebook, etc.

How to Increase your sale
When I first started with Amazon Kindle, I published my book and waited for sales but had just 10 sales in one week and it slowed down. I was figuring how to increase my sales until I understood the secret of kindle. I used the Kindle Count Down Deal and Free book promotion which allows kindle users to download my book within five days for free. Once I did this, I was to record 500 downloads and then my book returned to paid platform. This massively increased my book rating and sales skyrocketed.
